Whether you’re a life-long resident of San Antonio or considering relocating here, you may already have heard stories about the area’s best-known landmarks, hot spots, and events—and there are many! San Antonio’s diverse amenities offer something for everyone. There are tours of historic museums and picturesque parks and gardens. You can also find plenty of active play at area amusement parks, sports facilities, and recreation areas. Young or young at heart, there is something for everyone.

Here are our suggestions for having a great time in San Antonio.

San Antonio’s famous FIESTA is a 10-day, fun-filled celebration of culture and tradition. Each year in April, more than 100 non-profit organizations collaborate with the city to host more than 100 events for party goers, including three major parades. NIOSA (A Night in Old San Antonio) is a four-night block party in the heart of the city, filled with fabulous food and libations. Each year new official FIESTA events are added and the party grows! There is even a coronation ceremony for the FIESTA Royal Court. Visitors and locals gather to celebrate and take in all FIESTA has to offer.

Yanaguana Garden (pronounced “yana-wana”) opened only a few years ago but has quickly attracted regular crowds. Part playground, park, and art installation, Yanaguana offers everything from climbing structures to swings, four massive chess and checkerboards, a sand play area, and a small splash park to cool off in.

Gardeners and nature lovers will love the San Antonio Botanical Garden, where you can take a scheduled walk and learn about plants and birds native to Texas, and identify the many species of butterflies in the area. You can also pick up tips and tactics for planting a sustainable garden in your yard.

Art lovers in the family will want to see what’s happening at ArtPace, where contemporary artists demonstrate their process and often involve visitors in their work. Feeling creative? There are tours and workshops to participate in, making the experience even more memorable.

Another museum created just for kids is the Doseum, which has plenty of interactive exhibits to engage and involve younger San Antonians and tourists. On special nights, the over 21 crowds are invited to take over.

While you can certainly get around the city by walking or driving, it’s much more fun to use alternate forms of transportation, such as Segways and scooters.

A Segway tour of San Antonio is a great way to cover a lot of ground without wearing yourself out. Choose from a visit to landmarks, a ride through the city, or a haunted tour. Or ride on a motorized scooter as you tour the city.

With creeks and rivers galore, you can also rent kayaks or stand up paddleboards and tour the city through its waterways.

San Antonio’s River Walk is a gorgeous area to shop and dine and one of the city’s most famous tourist attractions. The beauty and the river’s location lend a unique vibe for making beautiful memories.

One of the most famous Texas landmarks, The Alamo, is located in San Antonio. You won’t want to skip hearing the fascinating history of the mission and the battle that made Texas what it is today.

Another famous landmark, the Biggest Boots in Texas, doesn’t have much to do but provides a fun backdrop for some Instagram shots. These 35-foot tall boots are situated right outside the North Star Mall.

While nearly everyone knows that SeaWorld is in San Antonio, along with its neighboring waterpark, Aquatica, and, of course, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, there’s another amusement park that gets even better reviews. That’s Morgan’s Wonderland. Families travel great distances to this magical place for the chance to give their differently able loved ones the opportunity to enjoy the “ultra-accessible” amusement park. It’s a park designed with modifications to allow nearly everyone to join in the fun, from wheelchair swings to sensory exhibits.

Coming in April, San Antonio will become home to the newest LEGOLAND. This exciting new place to visit will include 10 themed zones located in an indoor Discovery Center.

No matter what your interest or ability level, San Antonio has a variety of ways to have fun.
